Battlefield™ 6

The ultimate all-out warfare experience. In a war of tanks, fighter jets, and massive combat arsenals, your squad is the deadliest weapon.

Battlefield 6 Review — All-Out Warfare Returns to Form

Battlefield 6 brings all-out warfare back to its best with stellar multiplayer, but a thin campaign holds it back. …

Battlefield 6 marks the series’ biggest comeback in years. Developed by Battlefield Studios — the merged DICE, Criterion, Motive and Ripple Effect teams — and published by Electronic Arts, it launched on October 10, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Windows. Three days later it had sold over 7 million copies, the largest launch in the franchise’s history and the best-selling game in the US for 2025, overtaking Call of Duty for the first time.

Key Takeaways

  • Biggest launch yet: 7 million copies sold in three days, making it the franchise’s record debut.
  • Multiplayer is the star: large-scale, vehicle-heavy, squad-driven combat at its best (Metacritic 82 on PC); the campaign is the weak link.
  • Free battle royale: RedSec, the free-to-play BR mode, arrived October 28, 2025 as part of Season 1.
  • Who it’s for: anyone who loves coordinated squad and vehicle warfare. Skip it if you only want a strong single-player story.

Multiplayer: The Heart of Battlefield 6

The multiplayer is where Battlefield 6 earns its reputation. The classic pillars return: Conquest, Breakthrough, Rush, Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination and King of the Hill, joined by two new modes, Escalation and Sabotage.

The signature 64-player (and larger) battles feel chaotic in the best way. Tanks, jets and an expanded vehicle roster let you reshape the map, and the return of destructible environments means cover is never permanent. The four-class system — Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon — rewards coordinated squads, and the deadliest weapon is still, as the tagline promises, your squad.

Metacritic is an aggregator that averages critic reviews into a single 0–100 score. Critics agreed with the multiplayer’s quality: PCGamesN awarded it 9/10, Eurogamer and GamesRadar+ both gave 4/5, and IGN scored the multiplayer 8/10. On aggregate, Metacritic landed at 82/100 on PC, 83 on PS5 and 84 on Xbox Series X/S, while OpenCritic shows a 90% reviewer recommendation rate.

Not everything lands. The single-player campaign, set against a fractured NATO versus the private military company Pax Armata, was broadly panned for a thin narrative. IGN gave the campaign just 5/10, and GameSpot 7/10 overall. The story follows units like Egypt’s Unit 777 and a US Marine “Dagger” squad tangled with CIA manipulation, but most players will spend their time in multiplayer.

Sales & Reception

Beyond reviews, Battlefield 6 cleaned up at awards season: a TGA win for Best Audio Design and an Ultra Game Awards “Shooter of the Year” nod. RedSec is Battlefield 6’s free-to-play battle royale mode, and it followed on October 28, 2025 as part of Season 1, pulling in even more players.

Should You Buy It?

If you came for large-scale, vehicle-heavy, squad-driven warfare, Battlefield 6 is the best the series has felt in a decade. Skip the campaign expectations, lean into the multiplayer, and it is an easy recommendation for any fan of the Action shooter genre. Browse more game hubs for similar titles.
