Railroader Celebrates National Train Day 2026 With a MoW Preview Video and Its Biggest Sale Yet

Railroader celebrated National Train Day 2026 with its biggest discount yet (25% off) and a video overview of the MoW …

Railroader tied its May 2026 update to a real piece of railroad history: the 157th anniversary of the golden spike. On May 10, 1869, the driving of that spike at Promontory Summit joined the Central Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads into the first transcontinental railroad in the United States. Railroader marked the day with two things — its biggest sale to date and a first look at the Maintenance of Way (MoW) mechanics.

At a glance

  • The golden spike was driven at Promontory Summit on May 10, 1869, uniting the Central Pacific and Union Pacific.
  • Railroader’s biggest sale to date took 25% off during the celebration.
  • A new video gives an overview of the MoW mechanics in the forthcoming update.
  • The footage was recorded entirely on a laptop GPU to show realistic in-game performance.

A sale worthy of the anniversary

The team called the discount its biggest sale on Railroader to date — 25% off. For players who had been waiting for a lower price point before building their railroad, the National Train Day window was the moment to buy in.

A first look at Maintenance of Way

The centerpiece of the update was a video overview of the MoW mechanics. Maintenance of Way is the update that makes track wear with traffic and introduces the work cars and systems needed to keep a railroad healthy — and the video walked through how that will feel in practice.

Notably, the team emphasized that the video was fully recorded on a laptop GPU, not a high-end gaming rig. The intent was to give players a realistic idea of how the MoW update of Railroader might look and run on their own systems. Credit for the video went to Sam, the newest member of the Railroader team.

Why the wait is deliberate

The developers drew a parallel between the transcontinental railroad — which took about six years to complete — and the MoW update, which “sure feels like a long time” to build as well. They reiterated that getting the update right, and especially its modding features, is taking the time it needs. That patience, they said, is something they thank the community for.

Love that Railroader tied National Train Day to the 157th anniversary of the golden spike at Promontory Summit. The 25% off sale got me to finally buy it.

The MoW preview video recorded on a laptop GPU sold me. Nice to see realistic performance instead of a rig I will never own. Maintenance of Way looks deep.

Shoutout to Sam for the May 2026 MoW mechanics video. Clear overview of how track wear and work cars will play in Railroader.
