Railroader’s July 2026 development update mixed community events with a meaty look at one of the MoW update’s most-requested systems. The team shared three things: a Steam Train Fest discount, a real-world convention appearance, and a focus on Map Modding.
At a glance
- Train Fest on Steam meant a great time to pick up Railroader at 25% off.
- The team had a booth at the National Train Show in Chattanooga, TN on August 1–2.
- A presentation was scheduled in Meeting Room 6 at 4pm on Saturday.
- The update’s spotlight fell on Map Modding, one of the biggest requested Railroader features.
Train Fest discount
With Train Fest running on Steam, the July update pointed players to a 25% discount as a good moment to start or expand a railroad. Sales like this have been a recurring way the small team thanks its community between major updates.
Meeting players in Chattanooga
The developers announced they would have a booth at the National Train Show in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA, on August 1st and 2nd. For those in the area, they invited fans to stop by — and noted a presentation of Railroader in Meeting Room 6 at 4pm on Saturday, included with train-show admission. It was a rare chance for an indie railroad sim to meet its most dedicated engineers in person.
Map Modding takes the spotlight
The bulk of the post focused on Map Modding within the MoW update. The team was candid that it is “one of the biggest requested features for Railroader,” and that official modding support in general is a major focus of the update. They acknowledged the challenge plainly: Railroader’s map “wasn’t built for modding,” and part of the reason was a deliberate choice not to design a moddi…-friendly foundation early on. For a small studio, retrofitting that is “a really big lift” — but one they are committed to.
That honesty set expectations: Map Modding is coming, and it is being built properly rather than rushed, in step with the official modding support that moved onto the roadmap in the November 2025 update.

Drove to the National Train Show in Chattanooga for the Railroader booth. Meeting Room 6 at 4pm Saturday was packed. Great to meet the devs in person.
Map Modding is the feature I have wanted since Early Access. If Giraffe Lab builds it right, Railroader custom routes could be incredible. Take the time.
Grabbed Railroader at 25% off during Steam Train Fest thanks to the July 2026 update. Best $22 I have spent on a sim this year.
