CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the Switch 2 patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered is on the way, addressing the most persistent complaint since the remaster’s launch: soft, blurry image quality.

The studio’s latest patch notes state the Switch 2 update will improve “image clarity and sharpness” — a direct response to players who found the portable version noticeably softer than its PS5 and Xbox counterparts.

What Happened

The Witcher 3 Remastered went live as a free upgrade on September 29, 2026, for players who already owned the game. That part went smoothly and was widely praised.

The problems started shortly after. Players began reporting launch issues, and the Switch 2 version in particular drew criticism for its presentation — with the visual softness becoming the dominant complaint.

CDPR has been patching steadily since. A hotfix went out relatively quickly, and more recently hotfix 5.01b landed on PS5 and PS5 Pro. Console patches have also added things players had been asking for, including bloom toggles and broader lighting adjustments.

The Switch 2 Wait

Here is the frustrating part for Switch 2 owners: there is still no firm release date for the patch. CDPR has confirmed it is coming and described what it will fix, but has not committed to when.

That gap has produced the predictable result — players who claimed the free upgrade, found the visuals underwhelming, and have now been waiting roughly two weeks for a fix with no date attached.

To be fair to CDPR, the studio has been consistently communicative, and the acknowledgement that Switch 2 specifically needs a clarity pass is the important step. It means the issue is identified rather than being ignored.

What the Patch Should Fix

Based on the stated scope:

  • Image clarity — the headline fix, targeting whatever is causing the softness
  • Sharpness — likely resolution scaling or reconstruction tweaks
  • Additional fixes — CDPR has indicated the Switch 2 update covers more than just clarity, though details remain thin

Should You Download It Now?

Yes, with patience. The free upgrade is real value if you already own The Witcher 3 on Switch — there is no reason to skip it because of a temporary visual issue that has been acknowledged and is being fixed.

One useful note: if you own the Switch 1 physical version, you can redeem the Remastered edition for free from the eShop, provided you use the same region eShop and account. There was also a widely reported loophole letting some players claim it without owning the original, though that is not something to rely on.

If you have not played The Witcher 3 at all, it remains one of the best RPGs ever made and the remaster is the best version of it — once the patch lands.
