The Switch 2 has sold 23.68 million units as of June 30, 2026 — past the GameCube’s entire lifetime total of 21.74 million in just over a year on sale. Nintendo’s September Direct then filled the slate into spring 2027, while a $50 US price hike takes effect on September 1.

The Sales Numbers

From Nintendo’s own investor data and its Q1 FY2027 results:

  • 23.68m Switch 2 hardware sold life-to-date; 58.17m software units
  • 3.82m consoles in the April–June quarter alone
  • Regional split: 6.7m Japan, 7.95m Americas, 5.37m Europe, 3.66m other
  • Forecast: 16.5m for the full financial year, implying 36.35m life-to-date
  • Nintendo’s fastest-selling system ever: the original Switch was at 17.79m and the Wii at 20.13m after the same five fiscal quarters

Meanwhile the original Switch crept to 156.59 million, still short of the PS2’s 160.63m record but moving 660,000 more units in the quarter.

Two more rows worth flagging: Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the “massive expansion,” follows in 2027, and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort plus Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Switch 2 Edition both got new footage. The Direct also added Star Fox Adventures to GameCube – Nintendo Classics.

The Price Tag Lands Mid-Season

All of this arrives alongside the MSRP move from $449.99 to $499.99 (€469.99 → €499.99, £395.99 → £419.99) on September 1 — a $50 increase that Nintendo attributes to “changes in market conditions” expected to last “over the medium to long term.” Japanese pricing moved earlier, on May 25.

The timing matters commercially: Nintendo is asking for its highest-ever handheld price in the same season it ships Monster Hunter and a new Pikmin.
