  • A “DMZ PvE” petition is circulating in the Modern Warfare 4 community, per Insider Gaming.
  • It asks for a way to play DMZ without forced PvP — a long-running request since the mode debuted.
  • The debate reignited now that MW4’s full launch (October 23) has pushed every player into the same pool.
  • Activision has not announced any changes to DMZ; the petition is community-driven.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has been out for three days, and the loudest argument in its community is not about guns or maps — it is about DMZ. A petition calling for a dedicated PvE version of the extraction mode has surfaced this week, as reported by Insider Gaming, and it has reopened a debate that has followed DMZ since its debut.

What the Petition Is Asking For

The request is simple to state: keep DMZ’s AI enemies, contracts, faction missions and extraction tension — but give players a queue without opposing squads hunting them. In other words, a true PvE DMZ, alongside the existing PvPvE experience rather than instead of it.

This is not a new ask. DMZ launched as a PvPvE extraction mode in Modern Warfare II (2022), and “let me play it co-op only” has been one of the most persistent feedback themes ever since. What is new is the timing and the scale of attention: MW4’s launch has pushed a large wave of campaign and multiplayer players into the mode at once, and clashing expectations have landed in the same lobbies.

Why the Debate Keeps Coming Back

DMZ sits awkwardly between two audiences:

  • Extraction shooter players want the threat of other squads. Losing your loadout to a third party is part of the genre’s tension, not a flaw.
  • Co-op mission players want to chase faction story missions and vaults without being gatekept by PvP encounters they did not opt into.

Neither group is wrong, but they want different games, and a single shared queue forces one of them to compromise. Previous entries in the series experimented with ways to soften the collision, and the debate has resurfaced with effectively every major DMZ window since — this petition is simply the most organized expression of it yet around Modern Warfare 4.

What Activision Has Said

As of publication, Activision and Infinity Ward have not announced any changes to DMZ’s matchmaking, and the petition is community-driven rather than tied to any confirmed roadmap item. Whether the studio responds — with a dedicated PvE playlist, an event, or a statement — will likely shape how this conversation evolves over the mode’s first live season.

MW4 is off to a strong start regardless: it is the best-received Call of Duty in over a decade, with early Steam reviews at 93% positive.
