Exodus, the sci-fi RPG from Archetype Entertainment — the studio founded by former BioWare leaders including James Ohlen — just showed its longest gameplay look yet. A 40-minute “Liberating the Kay” mission demo walks through faction politics, orbital combat, and the choice-driven growth system at the game’s core.

What the Liberating the Kay Demo Shows
The footage, reported by Gematsu’s Sal Romano, centers on a single mission with surprising scope. The player approaches Suliman Tenjin, leader of the Tenjin dynasty, for help — but Tenjin attaches a price: a favor. That favor pulls the player into a conflict with their half-brother, Gideon Aslan, over control of the Khonsu orbital station.
Khonsu matters because it shields the player’s homeworld and serves as the Kay people’s ancestral home. So the mission is both a tactical fight and a cultural reckoning.
Choices Define Your Path
Exodus makes its branching identity explicit. During Liberating the Kay, decisions push your character toward one of three identities:
- Traveler — the default, adaptable route.
- Paladin — representing virtue.
- Immortal — representing ambition.
These are not cosmetic. The demo shows that you decide the fate of the Kay people, and those decisions produce lasting consequences rather than swapped endings. For a studio built from BioWare’s narrative talent, that is the headline promise.
A Sci-Fi RPG With Shooter Bones
Archetype labels Exodus across RPG, Shooter, and Third-Person Shooter tags, and the demo leans into gunplay as much as dialogue. Expect cover, ranged combat, and ability use layered on top of quest structure — closer to a Mass Effect-style hybrid than a pure shooter.
Archetype Entertainment is a Wizards of the Coast studio (under Hasbro), which gives the project both tabletop-worldbuilding DNA and a major publisher backbone.
Release Date and Platforms
- Launch: April 7, 2027
- Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC
- PC stores: Steam and the Epic Games Store
That places Exodus in the crowded spring 2027 window, but as a new IP from a proven RPG team, it is one of the more watched debuts on the calendar. For the broader schedule, see the fall 2026 release calendar.

That is what the Liberating the Kay demo confirms so far. We’ll update this page as Archetype shares more before the April 7, 2027 launch.
Forty minutes of Exodus gameplay and the Kay choice system already looks more BioWare-than-BioWare. James Ohlen's team clearly knows branching RPGs.
Orbital station battle for an ancestral homeworld? Exodus is selling exactly the sci-fi stakes I want from a 2027 RPG.
Glad Exodus is coming to both Steam and Epic on PC. April 7, 2027 can't get here fast enough.
Archetype Entertainment's Exodus gameplay 2026 footage is the most promising new sci-fi RPG I've seen from a former BioWare team. James Ohlen building branching stories again is exactly what I wanted.
