Halloween is in full swing in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and the Season of Scares update has brought two very different events with it. Both are live, both are time-limited, and they reward completely different play patterns — so it is worth knowing which one to prioritise before the clock runs out.
Event 1: The Haunted Floating Festival
This is the puzzle-forward event. The Haunted Floating Festival drops a set of interconnected puzzles into the Valley, and solving them is the only route to its spooky rewards.
How to approach it:
- Talk to every villager first. Several puzzle steps are gated behind dialogue, and skipping conversations is the most common reason players stall.
- Check the floating structures. The “floating” part is not decorative — key items are placed above ground level and are easy to miss if you only scan at eye height.
- Craft as you go. Some rewards require crafted components rather than found ones, so keep your crafting station clear and check recipes before farming.
Event guides from Game Rant note the puzzles are “tricky” by Dreamlight standards, so budget more time than you would for a standard Star Path.
Event 2: Halloween Town Trick-or-Treat
This one is a collection and crafting loop rather than a puzzle chain. You are gathering Trick-or-Treat items and converting them into rewards.
The efficient route:
- Gather first, craft second. Resist the urge to craft each item the moment you pick it up — batch crafting saves a lot of station trips.
- Prioritise limited spawns. Some Trick-or-Treat materials spawn on timers. Make a loop that hits those nodes repeatedly rather than wandering.
- Do not ignore duplicates. Several crafting recipes need more of a material than feels reasonable; duplicates are not wasted.
Destructoid’s guide covers all the craftable Halloween Town rewards if you want a full checklist.
Which Should You Do First?
If you have limited playtime, Trick-or-Treat first. It is the more forgiving event — collection loops can be chipped away at in short sessions, and there is no puzzle wall that can block you entirely.
The Haunted Floating Festival needs longer, more focused sittings, because a puzzle you cannot solve simply stops progress. Save it for a session where you have an hour or more.
Both are time-limited, so neither can be safely left until the final day.
General Tips for Season of Scares
- Clear inventory space before starting. Two events running simultaneously means a lot of materials competing for slots.
- Use the Auto-Claim feature on Star Paths — it has returned from previous updates and removes a lot of clicking.
- Check back daily. Dreamlight events routinely gate portions of content behind daily resets, so a single long session will not unlock everything.
The Bottom Line
Season of Scares is the densest content drop Dreamlight Valley has had this year, and both events are worth finishing for the cosmetic rewards alone. Start with Trick-or-Treat, keep your inventory clear, and do not leave either until the last 24 hours.

The Trick-or-Treat quest confused me for a day until I realised you have to talk to the villagers in a set order. This guide would have saved me.
Haunted Floating Festival is the better of the two events this year. Better rewards per hour if you are short on time.
